Thailand

Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Ao Nang, Krabi, Koh Samui, and Bangkok

Patong

Flew from Ho Chi Minh to Phuket, Thailand. Staying at the Seven Seas Hotel which is across from the Beach in Patong. We had never been to Phuket before so hopefully we made the right choice on where to base ourselves.

Phuket province is located in southern Thailand. It is the biggest Island of Thailand and sits on the Andaman sea.  Phuket has a large Chinese influence, so you will see many Chinese shrines and Chinese Restaurants around the City.

While the Chinese community is quite big, there are many other ethnicities bringing all their traditions and festivals from all over the world to Phuket.

Patong's 3-km strip of golden sand is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket.

Why is Patong Beach famous?

Patong Beach is known for its nightlife and 2850-metre (1.77 mile) beach that runs the entire length of Patong's west side. Nightlife is centered in two main areas, Bangla Road and the "Paradise Complex", with Bangla Road being predominantly straight and Paradise Complex gay.

Bangla Road is one of the busiest streets in Phuket full of bars, night clubs and sex clubs.

Patong

Just wondering around Pa Tong beach and town mostly today.

Patong

Rented a scooter and toured around Phuket.

Phuket

Edit

Phuket Town. It's different.  Very seedy at night!

Kajorn Rangsan Temple

Wat Kajorn Rangsan Temple is well known by locals as Wat Nua. It is located in Phuket Town almost next to the downtown fruit market, just a short walk from the water feature Suriyadaj Circle. It is on Ranong Road where the small local buses terminate. One of its major features is that it has been built to resemble a Greek Temple. The main building features tall white colums, a large golden sitting buddah and lotus flowers decorate the ceiling. Wat Kajorn Rangsan Temple has a big pagoda, surrounded by another seven, smaller pagodas and buddah related pictures hanging from some of its walls.

Hai Leng Ong Statue (Golden Dragon Monument)

he Golden Dragon Statue is a majestic symbol deeply rooted in ancient Chinese legend and local beliefs. According to the mythical tales, Phuket Island is believed to embody a golden sea dragon, revered as the protector of the land.

At the entrance of Queen Sirikit Park, visitors are greeted by an imposing golden-colored statue of a dragon emerging from the water. This awe-inspiring sculpture stands as a testament to the significance and reverence bestowed upon Golden Dragon. It serves as a focal point where local residents, especially those of Chinese descent, gather to pay homage to the creature. Offerings, incense, and candles are lovingly presented to honor the dragon and seek its protection for Phuket and its people.

Within the park, a wall adorned with artwork recounts the enchanting legend of Hai Leng Ong. This artistic depiction provides a figurative representation of the magnificent sea dragon and its relationship with the geography of Phuket. The wall displays the positioning of each part of the dragon's body in relation to the island. For instance, the snout of the dragon is believed to reside at the southern tip of Phuket, specifically at Laem Promthep. The heart of the dragon is said to be situated somewhere within the Phuket Town area. According to folklore, a series of hills forms the creature's long and curving body, culminating in a tail that elegantly curls back upon itself.

Queen Sirikit Park itself was established to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 72nd birthday in 2004, as part of the auspicious celebrations for her 12-year life-cycle. The addition of the dragon statue in 2006 further enhanced the park's significance, commemorating the 60th year of His Majesty the King's reign—an important milestone within the 12-year cycle.

Mongkhon Nimit Temple

Wat Mongkol Nimit or Wat Putta Mongkon might not be the most impressive temple in Phuket but this one means a lot to people living around Phuket Town. All temples are of course worth visiting but since Wat Mongkol Nimit is close to Thalang Road, the historical streets of Phuket Town it would complete your visit perfectly.

Phi Phi Islands

Phuket to Kho Phi Phi.

Koh Phi Phi or Phi Phi Islands are located in the middle of the Andaman sea.

Koh Phi Phi Le was featured in the Hollywood blockbuster movie The Beach, a story about the ultimate secluded Island beach. Maya Bay was a suitable choice as it epitomizes the stunning beauty of these islands: a bay of pellucid aquamarine water surrounded by towering limestone cliffs that harbours an arcing, white sand beach.

Koh Phi Phi Island

Walking around the island.

I was hoping to wait until after Christmas to start looking for another boat but Chris is already on the phone with brokers in Spain asking about a Slyder 49.
