Road trip to Gornja Lastva and Forte Rose.
Gornja Lastva and Forte Rose offer a glimpse into Montenegro’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes, making them perfect stops on a road trip.
Gornja Lastva is a charming, centuries-old stone village perched on the slopes of Mount Vrmac, overlooking the Bay of Kotor. Almost untouched by modern development, this quiet village is a window into traditional Montenegrin life. Narrow cobblestone paths wind through rustic stone houses, olive groves, and the 15th-century Church of St. Mary, creating a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere. The hike up offers rewarding panoramic views, while the village itself feels like a step back in time.
Forte Rose, located on the Lustica Peninsula, is a historic coastal fortress turned serene retreat. Originally built by the Austrians in the 19th century, the fort once guarded the entrance to Boka Bay. Today, its stone walls and stunning sea views create a unique blend of history and tranquility. The area has been transformed into a boutique escape, featuring a seaside restaurant and charming accommodations. Visitors can swim in the crystal-clear waters, explore hidden coves, or simply soak in the Mediterranean beauty.

We had Jade, the rigger from Wales come and check our rig. He thought eveything looked good. He was impressed with our kevlar.

We walked the other way for a change along the beach to a park that had a abadoned building on it.
"Kompleks Bizanti" located within Župa Park, situated south of Tivat near the airport. This complex comprises several derelict structures that have become a point of interest for urban explorers and photographers. Despite their neglected state, these buildings offer a glimpse into the town's past and are set against the scenic backdrop of the bay.
The exact history and original purpose of Kompleks Bizanti remain somewhat obscure, adding to its enigmatic allure. Some speculate that it might have been a hotel complex, given its proximity to a beautiful beach.
While the site holds historical and architectural significance, the buildings are in a state of disrepair, with graffiti and accumulated debris. Visitors have described the area as both intriguing and eerie.
Župa Park itself offers picturesque views of the bay and an undisturbed coastline, making it a worthwhile destination to sees both natural beauty and historical curiosities.

Road trip today to Risan and Porto Novi.
Risan and Porto Novi offer two distinct yet equally captivating experiences along Montenegro’s stunning Bay of Kotor.
Risan, one of the oldest settlements in the region, is steeped in history and natural beauty. Once an important Illyrian stronghold, the town is best known for its well-preserved Roman mosaics, dating back to the 2nd century. These intricate floor designs, featuring geometric patterns and a stunning depiction of the god Hypnos, provide a fascinating glimpse into the past. Surrounded by towering mountains, Risan maintains a peaceful, timeless charm. The waterfront is lined with traditional stone houses, and the slower pace of life makes it a perfect place to soak in the breathtaking scenery.
In contrast, Porto Novi is a modern, upscale marina town that exudes luxury and sophistication. This newly developed resort area features high-end boutiques, world-class restaurants, and a beautifully designed waterfront promenade. With its sleek architecture and lush Mediterranean gardens, Porto Novi offers an elegant escape. Visitors can enjoy fine dining, spa retreats, and yachting experiences, all while taking in the pristine views of the Adriatic.
A road trip between Risan and Porto Novi offers a blend of ancient history and contemporary elegance, making it an unforgettable journey along Montenegro’s picturesque coastline.

Went to check out Herceg Novi today. We parked at the new marina Lazure and walked along the waterfront to Herceg Novi, a charming coastal town at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor, is a must-visit destination on any Montenegro road trip. Known as the "City of Stairs" due to its hilly terrain, Herceg Novi boasts a mix of history, culture, and breathtaking seaside views.
The town’s old quarter is a maze of stone streets, historic buildings, and vibrant squares. Highlights include the 14th-century Forte Mare, which offers stunning views over the Adriatic, and the Kanli Kula Fortress, an impressive structure that now serves as a summer concert venue. The Clock Tower and the Church of St. Michael add to the town’s medieval charm.
Herceg Novi’s waterfront, known as Pet Danica promenade, stretches for several kilometers along the shimmering Adriatic, lined with cozy cafés, seafood restaurants, and small beaches. The area’s Mediterranean climate allows lush gardens filled with palm trees, bougainvillea, and cypress trees to thrive, giving the town a tropical feel. Nearby, the Blue Grotto and Žanjic Beach provide perfect opportunities for boat trips and swimming in crystal-clear waters.
Herceg Novi’s blend of history, scenic beauty, and relaxed coastal atmosphere makes it a perfect stop on a Montenegrin road trip.

We drove to Dubrovnik, Croatia which is only 68km from Tivat, Montenegro. We went there to pick up a boat part. The store agreed to ship it to the hotel that we were staying at. So it seemed easier and funner to do that then getting it shipped into Montenegro.
Dubrovnik, often called the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a destination that blends history, breathtaking scenery, and a vibrant coastal atmosphere. Nestled along Croatia’s stunning Dalmatian coastline, this UNESCO-listed city is famous for its medieval Old Town, encircled by massive stone walls that have stood for centuries.
Walking through the Old Town feels like stepping into a medieval world. Its limestone-paved streets are lined with historic buildings, charming squares, and bustling cafés. Key highlights include the iconic Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street, and landmarks like Onofrio’s Fountain, the Franciscan Monastery, and Rector’s Palace. The city walls, a must-visit attraction, offer panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the terracotta rooftops of the town below.
Beyond the walls, Dubrovnik’s coastline is equally spectacular. Banje Beach, just outside the Old Town, provides a perfect spot to relax with views of the fortress. A short boat ride away, Lokrum Island offers lush nature, peacocks, and hidden swimming spots. For the best sunset views, a cable car ride up Mount Srđ reveals a breathtaking panorama of Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands.
Dubrovnik’s mix of history, culture, and seaside charm makes it an unforgettable road trip destination.

Enjoyed my birthday in Tivat, Montenegro going out for dinner at one of the good restaurants along the waterfront.
